How to drive impact in a COVID-19 world
With underserved communities disproportionately affected by COVID-19, the stakes are high to ensure that every dollar invested in emergency response delivers impact. A data-driven organizational strategy makes this possible.
As part of its COVID-19 response, the Medtronic Foundation contributed over $13 million worth of investments to organizations around the world, some of which will go toward supporting and equipping front-line health workers. Its organizational strategy remains focused on health workers and employees and, given the COVID-19 pandemic, is being adapted to the urgent needs of today by allowing for partnerships that improve outcomes for vulnerable populations.
Bhatt expects that the COVID-19 pandemic will usher in a new era of virtual volunteerism, with the Medtronic Foundation organizing opportunities in this area to support nonprofit organizations responding to the crisis and deepen its impact with those organizations. “I think where we’re going to see the greatest creative and innovative space inside of corporate philanthropy is in how to engage our employees,” Bhatt said.
As for keeping focused on outcomes, Bhatt said that though this is easier said than done in corporate philanthropy, COVID-19 is highlighting the importance of partnerships in working closely together to solve issues and reach collective outcomes. “How would we be true to our end goal if we didn’t know that something is actually moving forward or there is a lesson to be learned?”
