“People who come to Medtronic come with a larger social interest in mind, and we want to make sure we’re meeting them where they are and enable them to contribute,” Bhatt said.

BSR’s Mohapatra said initiatives such as involving staff in social missions or designing corporate social responsibility projects can be highly valuable, creating more of an emotional connection with workers.

“Many companies are finding that employees are really engaged in the full workforce when they feel that they’re contributing towards a company’s broader [corporate social] purpose,” she said.
